Visitors throng ISP stalls at ICT expo to grab attractive packages

Stalls of internet service providers (ISPs) are one of the most sought-after at Midas CAN Info-Tech 2013, the country´s largest ICT fair. 

It´s not only the growing interest among Nepalis to install Internet service at home that is drawing the crowd. Attractive packages offered by ISPs have also worked as a pulling factor. 
All ISPs participating at the fair have unveiled new packages targeting a range of customers. Such a move comes at a time when ISPs are losing the battle on Internet service sales to telecom companies despite rise in Internet penetration, which has crossed 20 percent so far. 

Nevertheless, ISPs are coming up with high-speed Internet services and offering them at competitive prices to increase subscriber base. 

Classic Tech has launched CT45 package under which customers can get 15 GB data at 15Mbps speed via optic fiber at Rs 1,500 per month. Pramesh Kharel, CEO of Classic Tech, said high-speed is assured, as the company is relying on fiber optics. 

The other package launched by the company, called CT 211, on the other hand, provides 20 GB data at the speed of 2Mbps. The service is available for Rs 1,000 per month. 

"In case 20 GB data limit is fully used in less than a month´s time, we will provide unlimited 128Kbps internet service for the remaining days of the month," said Kharel.

Suman Lal Pradhan, CEO of Web Surfer, said response from visitors was overwhelming. "We are offering packages at one of the lowest rates, so bookings are going up every day," said Pradhan.

Web Surfer is providing 1Mbps Internet service at Rs 495 per month at CAN Info-Tech. The company has also announced waiver in installation fee on subscription of one-year night or volume-based package. 

It is also giving away 8GB pen drive and is waiving installation fee on subscription of unlimited package for six months. "We are offering different packages that meet the requirement of home and corporate users," Pradhan said. 

The other internet service provider, Subisu Cable Net, has launched ´double bandwidth´ offer, under which customers buying 256Kbps Internet package will automatically get 512Kbps Internet package and those paying for 128Kbps Internet service will get 256Kbps Internet service. Rejina Acharya of Subisu Cable Net said the company has also unveiled Fiber to the Home (FTTH) service recently, providing customers access to voice, data and video services. 

Vianet Communications, on the other hand, is offering free installation and free three-month Internet service on annual package purchase of its FiberNet service. 

Binay Bohra of Vianet Communications said the response for FTTH service from home users was exciting. The service provider had launched the service in 2011 targeting corporate users only. Vianet is also giving away Samsung Galaxy Note II to one lucky winner from among those who have filled up forms at the company´s stall.
